Cutting & Styling

Defining your hair

Great hair starts with defining your texture (hair’s individual thickness) and density (how much hair you have), your curl level and hair type.

  • texture: fine, normal, thick, coarse

  • density: sparse, normal, abundant

  • curl level: straight, wavy, curly or coily

  • hair type: flyaway, normal, dry/damaged, oily, chemically treated

Identifying your concerns

  • condition – lacking protein or moisture

  • scalp: flaky, oily, sensitive

  • hair loss/sparsening

  • manageability

Change or maintain

How experimental do you want to be? Think about your boundaries; how much length you want to keep/ how short you are willing to go.

Visual tools

It helps our team immensely if you can show them what your target hair goal is. If you’re not sure, think about showing us pictures of the best your hair looked so we can help create your ultimate cut and style.

Contraindications

  • taking medication which may affect your hair

Colour

Natural colour

Great professional colour services start with ascertaining your:

  • depth – how light or dark your natural base is

  • tone – what colours you see in your hair naturally (gold, red, orange, ash, etc)

  • percentage white – the level of white/grey there is in your natural hair (coupled with your skin tone) will affect how dark you can go

  • colour palette – all of our experts are trained in colour analysis to define your seasonal colour blueprint and what shades suit your skin tone:

    • cool, blue toned or warm, yellow toned

    • contrasting eye colour to natural depth or blending eye colour to natural depth

  • artificial depths present – what colour applications your hair has had previously during its length and lifespan, when and of what type

  • artificial tones present – blue ash, mauve, ash, mahogany, copper, red, metallic green, mocha

Technique

Depending on the above, what technique best suits you?

  • vegetable colour; gentle colour with minimal grey coverage

  • babylights – ultra fine highlights

  • tint and lights – coverage of grey mixed with contrasting or complementing highlights

  • tone on tone colour to subtly but permanently cover grey

  • ombré balayage – regrowth-free colour lightening from roots to mid-lengths and ends

  • rainbow colour – vibrant jewel or pastel tones on pre-lightened hair

  • highlights and lowlights – T-section, half head (crown, parting, front and back hairline), full head (total coverage) woven to be fine or vibrant

  • global colour – all over colour application: tone on tone, permanent or organic

  • bleach/pre-lightening – if going 3 depths lighter than your natural base

  • vegan colour options

Issues which affect your hair’s capabilities and how we colour it

Your therapist will need to know your skin history to determine treatment contraindications. Some of our treatments use technology such as micro-currents, ultrasounds and LED’s:

  • pre or post pregnancy or planning a pregnancy

  • medical issues/underlying health concerns

Your lifestyle and skin history is essential in order to create the right treatment to meet your needs. Think about:

It helps our therapists if you think about you preferred regular products and the textures (ultra-light, high absorbency or luxurious and rich) you like:

NAILS

Hands

Great hand care starts with finding out what type of nails you have. Our technician will check if your nails are:

  • brittle – chip and flake easily

We will then customise your nails and file them as you wish:

  • shape – square, oval, round, squoval (hybrid of square and oval), almond, ballerina, stiletto, mountain peak

  • length – short and practical, regular or long

Durability and length of polish life will depend on what service you choose:

  • regular manicure

  • intensive manicure (hand facial)

  • French manicure (pale pink polish with white tips)

  • re-varnish (shape and polish)
